Also known as Celiac Disease, gluten enteropathy or gluten intolerance, Celiac Sprue is a disease of the auto-immune system due to an inability of sufferers to properly digest gliadin, a gluten protein found in wheat and related grains, such as rye, barley and oats. There is no known cure for the disease and those involved must avoid gluten containing foods for the rest of their life. Celiac Sprue is often mistakenly diagnosed as lactose intolerance, IBS, IBD, Crohn's Disease and other illnesses with similar symptoms.
